India vs Afghanistan: India cruised to an eight-wicket victory over Afghanistan in their second match of the 2023 ODI World Cup, thanks to a scintillating century from captain Rohit Sharma. Chasing a target of 273, Rohit scored 131 runs off 84 balls, hitting five sixes and 16 fours, to lead his team to victory with 15 overs to spare.

Afghanistan had opted to bat first after winning the toss and made a steady start, with Hashmatullah Shahidi and Azmatullah Omarzai putting on a 121-run partnership for the second wicket. Shahidi went on to score 80 runs off 88 balls, while Omarzai made 62 runs off 69 balls.

India’s bowlers pulled things back in the middle overs, with Jasprit Bumrah taking four wickets for 39 runs. Hardik Pandya also picked up two wickets. Afghanistan were set the target 272.8 in 50 overs.

In reply, India got off to a flying start with Rohit and Ishan Kishan putting on a 156-run partnership for the first wicket. Kishan was dismissed for 47, but Rohit continued his onslaught, reaching his century in just 63 balls. He was eventually dismissed for 131, but his knock had already set the platform for India’s victory.

Virat Kohli (55 not out) and Shreyas Iyer (25 not out) saw India home to victory without any further hiccups. The win was India’s second in two matches and took them to the second on the table.
