Sri Lanka vs South Africa: South Africa got their ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 campaign off to a winning start with a comfortable 102-run victory over Sri Lanka at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on October 7.

The Proteas batted first and posted a total of 42/5, thanks to three century from Quinton de Kock (100) a solid knock from Rassie van der Dussen (108) and a rock solid century by Markram (106) from 54 balls one of the fastest century in the World cup history just 49 balls. Sri Lanka got off to a good start in their chase, but they lost wickets at regular intervals and were eventually bowled out for 326 in the 44.5 over.

The Proteas’ bowlers were excellent on the day, with Kagiso Rabada (2/50) and Coetzee (3/68) sharing 5 wickets between them.

South Africa’s captain, Temba Bavuma, was pleased with his team’s performance. “It was a good start to the tournament,” he said. “We batted well and posted a good score. The bowlers then did a great job to defend it.”

Sri Lanka’s captain, Dasun Shanaka, was disappointed with the result, but he said that his team would learn from their mistakes. “We didn’t bat well enough,” he said. “We gave away too many wickets early on. We need to improve in our next match.”
